Location: Parish of the Risen Lord, Preston
Grant awarded: £2000
There were over 13 local churches involved in going out onto the streets of Preston in order to be a positive presence on Friday nights. They provide support and a listening ear to those they meet on the streets of their city. The grant awarded by the CCF has enabled this project to train more volunteers and employ a part time co-ordinator in order to extend their work to a Saturday night. Results to date show a steady decline in recorded crime, vocal support for this church based project from local people and encouragement from the police to extend the project. In 2009 the project was in contact with nearly 3000 people, including young people and street workers, through the presence of their volunteers.
